The Bentley Azure was a full four-seat convertible built on the Continental R platform. It was the most expensive production Bentley of its era at launch and one of the most handsome open-top cars of the 1990s. Each car was partly hand-built at the Mulliner Park Ward facility.

The Car

Produced from 1995 to 2003 in original form (with a second-generation Azure from 2006 to 2009 on the Arnage platform), the Azure used the 6,750cc turbocharged V8 producing 385bhp. The Pininfarina-designed body featured a full-length power hood with twin rear windows. At launch the Azure cost more than a Ferrari F355; a positioning statement that reflected both the craftsmanship involved and the confidence Bentley had developed following the Turbo R’s success. Around 1,710 first-generation Azures were built.

Buying

The Azure is undervalued relative to the craftsmanship it represents. Hood condition and mechanism operation are the critical convertible-specific checks. The Continental R platform is well-supported. Bentley heritage support covers both generations. The second-generation Azure on the Arnage platform is mechanically more complex but more powerful.
