Bentley Price Guide
Bentley spans over a century of production and covers an extraordinarily wide value range. From seven-figure pre-war racing cars to sub-ten-thousand-pound used 80s models. If you are trying to establish what your Bentley is worth, the first thing to understand is which of the brand’s very distinct eras your car belongs to, because the market dynamics are completely different in each.
What Affects Bentley Values
At the top end, provenance, originality, and competition history are everything. At the modern end, specification, condition, and service history drive the numbers in much the same way as any luxury car. Across all eras, Bentleys are expensive to maintain and that reality keeps a natural ceiling on used values for models outside the established collector market. Full service history from a Bentley dealer or recognised specialist is essentially mandatory for achieving a strong price. The cost of rectifying neglected maintenance on any Bentley is high enough to make a cheap, poorly documented car a false economy.
Vintage and Pre-War
The W.O. Bentley era cars (the 3 Litre, 4.5 Litre, Speed Six, and 8 Litre) are among the most valuable and celebrated British cars ever made. The Le Mans racing history and the Bentley Boys legend underpin values that reach comfortably into seven figures for the best examples. The Derby Bentleys produced under Rolls-Royce ownership from 1933 are more refined touring cars and trade at lower but still substantial levels, with coachwork and body style having an enormous impact on value.
Post-War Through Rolls-Royce Era
The post-war Bentleys produced alongside their Rolls-Royce equivalents (from the Mark VI through the T-Series and Mulsanne) have historically traded at a discount to the Rolls-Royce versions, though that gap has been narrowing as buyers increasingly appreciate the more sporting Bentley identity. The Turbo R and Continental R from the 1980s and 1990s are now attracting serious collector interest as the last of the hand-built, Crewe-manufactured grand tourers before the VW era. These represent remarkable value for money at current prices and are widely tipped to appreciate.
Modern Bentley
The Volkswagen era, beginning with the Continental GT in 2003, transformed Bentley from a tiny-volume manufacturer into a global luxury brand producing over 10,000 cars per year. This volume means there is a healthy used market with strong price transparency. The Continental GT and Flying Spur have depreciated significantly from new but offer an extraordinary amount of car for the money on the used market. The Bentayga SUV follows a similar pattern. Specification matters; the W12 engine, Mulliner options, and desirable colour combinations all hold value better than base models. The recent retirement of the W12 engine has already begun to focus collector attention on the final W12-powered models as the end of an era.
