The Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano of 2006 to 2012 was the V12 grand tourer that succeeded the 575M. It was a 612bhp 6.0-litre V12 in a transaxle layout derived from the Enzo, with “magnetorheological” dampers that used iron particles in the damper fluid to provide continuously variable suspension stiffness. The 599 GTO of 2010, with 670bhp and 100kg removed from the standard car, is the most extreme front-engined naturally-aspirated Ferrari since the 365 GTB/4 Daytona.

The Car

The 5,999cc V12 produced 612bhp at 7,600rpm with the transaxle layout giving near-perfect 47/53 front/rear weight distribution. The Fiorano name referenced Ferrari’s test track. The magnetorheological dampers (MR dampers) provided exceptional ride quality without compromising handling. The 599 HGTE handling package firmed the chassis settings. The SA Aperta (80 produced) was the open top version. The 599 GTO of 2010 (limited to just 599 made) used 670bhp, Cup tyres, and a dual-clutch-like manettino system.

Buying

The 599 GTO is the collector’s specification; values have risen strongly. The standard 599 with HGTE is the practical daily grand tourer. MR damper replacement can be significant when required.
