The GMC Vandura was the full-sized van in GMC’s commercial range — mechanically identical to the Chevrolet G-Series van and sold through GMC’s truck dealers. The Vandura became globally famous as the vehicle used by the A-Team in the 1983–1987 television series — a black 1983 GMC Vandura with a red stripe and a roof-mounted spoiler that became one of the most recognisable vehicles in television history.

The Car

The Vandura used GM’s full-sized van platform with inline six and V8 engines in cargo, passenger, and conversion van configurations. The 350ci small-block Chevrolet V8 was the most common powertrain. The conversion van industry — custom luxury interiors with captain’s chairs, entertainment systems, and elaborate graphics — used the Vandura as a base alongside the Chevrolet and Dodge equivalents.

Buying

The A-Team connection sustains interest in the black-and-red specification. Standard Vanduras are practical and affordable. GM V8 parts availability is comprehensive. GMC
