The GMC Suburban was GMC’s version of the Chevrolet Suburban, the full-sized SUV that has been in continuous production since 1935, making it the longest-running nameplate in American automotive history.
The GMC variant used the same body, chassis, and powertrains as the Chevrolet but was sold through GMC’s truck dealer network with slightly different trim and badging.
The Car
The Suburban’s ability to carry a large family and tow a boat or caravan simultaneously made it a national institution in the United States. Many eras used the small-block Chevrolet 350ci V8 and later the Vortec 5.7-litre, in a body that seated up to nine passengers with substantial cargo space behind the third row. Four-wheel drive was available on all generations.
Buying
The GM small-block V8 is one of the most well-supported engines in the world. Rust in the body and frame is the primary concern on older examples. The GMC badge adds no significant value over the Chevrolet equivalent.
