The Ford Thames was the commercial vehicle brand Ford of Britain used from the 1930s to the 1960s; covering everything from the Thames 300E van (based on the Anglia) to the Thames Trader medium truck. The Thames badge was phased out in favour of the Ford name during the 1960s. The 400E Thames van of 1957–1965 is the most commonly surviving variant.
The Car
The Thames 400E van used the 1,703cc Consul engine in a forward-control van body. The Thames 300E used the Anglia’s sidevalve engine. The Thames Trader was a medium-duty truck. The 400E is now popular as a classic commercial vehicle and as a base for campervan and food truck conversions.
Buying
The 400E is the most popular surviving Thames for restoration and conversion. Consul-derived mechanicals provide reasonable parts support. Rust is comprehensive.
