Ford Sierra XR4i (1983–1984) Price Guide

typical price 17 October, 2026
The Ford Sierra XR4i of 1983 to 1985 was the launch performance Sierra. It was a three-door hatchback using the 2.8-litre Cologne V6 from the Granada producing 150bhp, distinguished by the extraordinary bi-plane rear spoiler with its separate upper and lower wings connected by a vertical strut. The bi-plane spoiler is either the most characterful or the most ridiculous aerodynamic device ever fitted to a production car; opinion has not converged in forty years.
The Car
The 2,792cc Cologne V6 with Bosch K-Jetronic injection in the three-door body with its bi-plane spoiler gave the XR4i 130mph capability and a distinctive appearance that nothing else on the road could match. The five-speed manual was the correct gearbox. Around 24,000 were produced. The XR4i was replaced by the Sierra XR4x4 in 1985 when the bi-plane spoiler was discontinued.
Buying
The XR4i is appreciating steadily; the bi-plane spoiler has become the defining visual of 1980s Ford performance. Cologne V6 maintenance is well-understood. Structural rust in the Sierra’s body is the concern.
