Ford Mustang 5th Gen (2005–2014) Price Guide
-
typical price 14 October, 2026
The fifth-generation S197 Mustang of 2005 to 2014 embraced retro styling. It deliberately referenced the 1964 original with its fastback roofline, side scoops, and tri-bar tail-lights, created by designer Sid Ramnarace. The GT used a new 4.6-litre Three Valve Modular V8, later upgraded to the 5.0-litre Coyote for 2011 that produced 412bhp and became the most praised Mustang powerplant in decades. The Shelby GT500 with its supercharged 5.4-litre produced up to 662bhp.
The Car
The S197 used V6 and V8 engines; the GT’s 4.6 Three Valve (300bhp) was replaced by the 5.0 Coyote (412bhp) for 2011, transforming the car’s character. The Shelby GT500 used a supercharged 5.4-litre producing 500bhp initially and 662bhp by 2013. The Boss 302 of 2012 used a high-revving naturally aspirated 5.0 at 444bhp. The live rear axle continued throughout; purists consider it essential to the Mustang character while engineers consider it a compromise.
Buying
The 2011- 5.0 Coyote GT is the outstanding specification. The Shelby GT500 for maximum power. The Boss 302 for driving purity. Standard V6 cars are affordable imports.
