The Mondeo Mk IV of 2015 to 2022 was the most refined Mondeo and potentially the last traditional one. It came in the guise of a large saloon, hatchback, or estate with the premium aspirations of a BMW 5 Series at Ford pricing. The 2.0-litre EcoBoost 240 and the Vignale luxury trim level demonstrated Ford’s intent to move the Mondeo upmarket from its fleet origins.
The Car
The Mk IV used EcoBoost 1.5 and 2.0 petrols alongside TDCi 1.5 and 2.0 diesels. The Vignale specification (leather, quilted door panels, premium audio, and specific exterior detailing) positioned the Mondeo as a genuine premium alternative. The 2.0 hybrid arrived alongside, combining the Atkinson-cycle petrol with an electric motor for combined economy. The ST-Line replaced the ST badge for sporting cosmetics without the performance engine.
Buying
The Vignale is the specification that best represents the Mk IV’s ambition. The 2.0 TDCi 150 Powershift is the practical estate specification. Hybrid for urban economy.
