The Ford Falcon appeared in two very different forms: the American Falcon compact sedan of 1960–1970 that was one of the first modern American compact cars, and the Australian Ford Falcon that ran from 1960 to 2016 and became a national icon culminating in the supercharged V8 GT-F of the final series.
The Car
The American Falcon used the 144ci and 170ci sixes and the 260ci and 289ci V8s in a compact body. The Falcon Sprint with the 289 V8 was a genuine sports car. The Australian Falcon evolved independently from the same starting point into a full-sized V8 sedan; the GT-HO Phase III of 1971 being the most powerful and most valuable, and the final FPV GT-F of 2014 with the 5.0-litre supercharged V8 at 351kW closing the Australian production chapter.
Buying
The Australian GT-HO Phase III is an investment-grade muscle car. The American Falcon Sprint is an accessible compact performance car.
