Ford Capri Generation / Variant Price Guides
The Ford Capri was “the car you always promised yourself”, as their marketing team said.
It started as a European coupe that Ford of Europe intended to do for Britain and Germany what the Mustang had done for America. Launched in 1969 with a range from the modest 1.3-litre to the brutish 3.0-litre V6, the Capri gave ordinary Ford buyers access to sports car styling at family car prices. Three marks ran from 1969 to 1986, and the Capri has been appreciating as a collector’s car ever since.
The Generations
The Mk 1 (1969–1974) was the original fastback. The Mk 2 (1974–1978) received a hatchback rear. The Mk 3 (1978–1986) was the refined final version. The 3.0-litre Essex V6 and the 2.8i injection are the performance specifications across the family.
Buying
The Mk 1 RS3100 is the rarest and most valuable. The Mk 3 2.8i is the most usable performance specification. Standard 1.6 and 2.0 Capris remain relatively affordable but are increasingly scarce.
