The Ford Model A Pickup of 1928 to 1932 was the commercial derivative of the Model A in the form of a light pickup truck. It used the Model A’s 3,285cc four-cylinder and three-speed gearbox in a cab-and-bed configuration that served American farmers, tradesmen, and small businesses. The Model A Pickup is the starting point of Ford’s truck heritage that would eventually lead to the F-150 becoming the best-selling vehicle in America.
The Car
The Pickup used the standard Model A chassis with a steel cab and wood-floored cargo bed. The 40bhp four-cylinder was adequate for the light loads the truck was designed to carry. Open-cab and closed-cab variants were both produced. The Model A Pickup is popular in the rod and custom community for its proportions and its straightforward mechanical layout.
Buying
Original unmodified pickups are rarer than custom or restored examples. The Model A’s comprehensive parts network supports the pickup variant fully.
