Fiat Dino Price Guide

The Fiat Dino of 1966 to 1972 was not quite a Fiat. It used Ferrari’s 2.0-litre V6 (later 2.4-litre) in a body available as a Pininfarina spider and a Bertone coupé, produced to homologate the Dino V6 engine for Formula 2 racing. Ferrari needed 500 road cars built with the engine; Fiat provided the manufacturing capacity. The result was one of the finest Italian GTs of the late 1960s, with Ferrari V6 power in accessible bodies.

The Car

The Dino 2000 used a 1,987cc Ferrari V6 producing 160bhp. The Dino 2400 from 1969 enlarged this to 2,418cc and 180bhp with iron rather than aluminium block construction, improving durability. The Pininfarina spider is the open version and the Bertone coupé the closed alternative – both are significant Italian designs. Mechanically these are Ferrari engines in Fiat bodies, requiring Ferrari specialist knowledge for the V6’s maintenance.

Buying

The Fiat Dino requires Ferrari V6 expertise, not a car for a general Italian specialist. The 2400 is mechanically preferable to the 2000. The spider commands premiums over the coupé.
