The Fiat 131 Mirafiori of 1974 was the replacement for the 124 saloon. a more modern, slightly larger car. It used the 124’s twin-cam engine again and remained in a conventional rear-wheel-drive body. The 131 Abarth Rally is the most significant variant: a purpose-built homologation car that won the World Rally Championship constructor’s title in 1977, 1978, and 1980.
The Car
The 131 used 1.3 and 1.6-litre twin-cam engines in saloon and estate bodies. The 131 Abarth Rally used a 2,000cc twin-cam 16-valve engine producing around 230bhp in Group 4 specification, driven by Walter Röhrl, Markku Alén, and Björn Waldegård to World Rally Championship victories. The road-legal Abarth homologation version is the rarest and most valuable 131.
Buying
