Fiat 124 Generation / Variant Price Guides
The Fiat 124 of 1966 was Car of the Year in 1967 and the most technically sophisticated small saloon of its era. It boasted twin overhead camshafts, disc brakes all round, and a five-bearing crankshaft in a class where most rivals still used overhead valves and drum brakes. It provided the platform for the 124 Spider sports car and was produced under licence in the Soviet Union as the Lada, where it remained in production until 2013.
The Car
The 1,197cc twin-cam four-cylinder in the original 124 produced 60bhp, which was more than any comparable saloon of the time. A 1,438cc engine arrived in 1969. The 124 Special and Special T raised output further. Four-door saloon and two-door estate body styles. The 124’s technical sophistication influenced European small car design substantially.
Buying
Rust is severe and structural. The twin-cam engine is robust with correct maintenance. The 124 Coupe and 124 Spider are the sporting derivatives and are highly sought after.
