Ferrari Superamerica Price Guide

The Ferrari Superamerica of 2005 to 2006 was the open-top version of the 575. But, interestingly, it was not a conventional convertible or targa. Instead, Ferrari developed an electrochromic glass roof panel that rotated 180 degrees to lie flat, inverted, over the bootlid. This provided a completely open driving experience without a folding mechanism or stored roof panel. The technology was extraordinary; just 559 were produced.

The Car

The Superamerica used the 575M’s 5,748cc V12 producing 540bhp in a Pininfarina body derived from that car. The Revocromico rotating roof used electrochromic glass that could be electrically darkened to reduce solar heat gain when closed. The rotation mechanism was developed specifically for this car. Ownership is shared with the Ferrari 575M platform; the rotating roof mechanism is unique to the Superamerica and requires specialist maintenance.

Buying

The rotating roof mechanism must be demonstrated to work correctly during inspection as restoration is exorbitantly expensive. With 559 produced, any documented example is a rare and historically interesting car.
