The Ferrari 612 Scaglietti of 2004 to 2010 was the front-engined 2+2 V12 grand tourer, successor to the 456. It was named in honour of Sergio Scaglietti, the coachbuilder whose Modena workshop produced the bodies for Ferrari’s racing and road cars of the 1950s and 1960s. The 612 used an aluminium body and chassis, 540bhp from a 5.7-litre V12, and genuine rear seat accommodation.
The Car
The 612 used a 5,748cc V12 producing 540bhp. The all-aluminium construction saved weight compared to a steel body. The six-speed manual was available alongside the F1 paddle-shift. The 612 Sessanta of 2004, produced in 60 examples for the marque’s 60th anniversary, used unique two-tone paint and bespoke interior. The F1 gearbox is the most common choice on surviving cars. Rear seat accommodation was the most usable of any Ferrari 2+2.
Buying
The 612 has depreciated substantially, meaning it currently offers significant V12 grand touring at accessible prices. The F1 gearbox can be jerky in slow traffic; the manual is the driver’s preference. V12 service intervals are expensive but it has proved surprisingly straightforward to maintain.
