The Ferrari 412 of 1985 to 1989 replaced the 400 with 340bhp from an enlarged 4,943cc version of the V12, revised styling updates by Pininfarina, and ABS braking (the first Ferrari to include this). The 412 is the final iteration of the front-engined 2+2 Ferrari before the format was replaced by the 456 in 1992.
The Car
The 412 used the 4.9-litre V12 in injection form producing 340bhp. The automatic transmission continued as standard with the manual as an option. ABS from Bosch was standard, proving genuinely useful on a heavy front-engined grand tourer. Revised body styling updated the 400’s appearance with larger glasswork and revised light treatments. Around 576 were produced.
Buying
The 412 is slightly more developed than the 400 and similarly priced on the used market. The ABS is a meaningful safety benefit. The V12 in 412 specification is the same unit used in the Testarossa.
