The Ferrari 360 Modena of 1999 to 2005 replaced the F355 with an aluminium spaceframe chassis, a 3.6-litre V8 producing 400bhp, and a more visually dramatic body by Pininfarina that divided opinion. The 360 also introduced Ferrari’s F1 paddle-shift gearbox to the mid-engine range, changing the character of the driving experience from the analogue V8 of the F355 to something more precise and more driver-focused.

The Car

The 360 used a 3,586cc V8 producing 400bhp at 8,500rpm. The aluminium spaceframe was 40% lighter than the steel structure it replaced. The Modena coupe and Spider open variants were both offered. The F1 gearbox (optional at first, almost universal by the end of production) used hydraulic actuators to change gears in approximately 150 milliseconds. The Challenge Stradale of 2003 used a stripped, lowered, and more aerodynamically aggressive body for track use.

Buying

The Challenge Stradale is the most desirable 360; rare, focused, and appreciated. The Spider is the most valued standard production car. Annual cam belt changes apply as on the F355 and require documentation for every year. The F1 gearbox’s actuators require periodic replacement.
