Ferrari 328 Price Guide

The Ferrari 328 GTB and GTS of 1985 to 1989 was the definitive mid-engined Ferrari of its era. It was the 308 concept refined to its conclusion with a 3,185cc engine producing 270bhp, subtly revised styling that sharpened the 308’s proportions, and the reliability improvements that came from Ferrari’s accumulated experience with the V8 mid-engine layout. The 328 is the most complete of the Pininfarina V8 series.

The Car

The 3.2-litre V8 produced 270bhp at 7,000rpm from the four-valve heads of the QV carried over and enlarged. The body received revised front and rear treatment with integrated bumpers and the rectangular tail-lights that make the 328 visually distinct from the 308. The GTS outsold the GTB substantially. Around 1,344 GTBs and 6,068 GTSs were produced, so the GTS is by far the more numerous. A 328 GTS in red is the archetypal 1980s Ferrari fantasy made real.

What Goes Wrong

Cam belt changes as on all interference V8 Ferraris of this era are non-negotiable; three years or 30,000 miles. Rust in the sills and floor are a major concern. The rear end can corrode severely behind the rear wheels where moisture is trapped. Check for previous engine work and ensure the coolant hoses and water pump have been maintained as the cooling system requires attention on high-mileage cars.

Buying

The 328 GTS is the accessible sports Ferrari for buyers who want the experience without stratospheric prices. The GTB commands a small premium for its relative rarity. Avoid any car without a cam belt history in the last three years, or budget for immediate attention.
