The Ferrari 308 GTB Quattrovalvole and GTS Quattrovalvole of 1982 to 1985 added four valves per cylinder to the twin-cam V8, recovering the power lost to emissions equipment and fuel injection. This raised output from 214bhp to 240bhp and went some way to restoring the 308’s driver appeal. The QV is the most developed and finely sorted 308.

The Car

The four-valve heads produced 240bhp at 7,000rpm; less than the original carburettor car’s 255bhp but with broader torque delivery and improved efficiency. The same steel body. Electronic ignition replaced the earlier distributors. The QV is the recommended 308 for buyers who want the most usable and most reliable specification. The 328 that replaced it used a larger 3.2-litre version of the same V8.

Buying

The QV is the sweet spot of the 308 range. Better developed than the early cars, less power-compromised than the injection cars. Cam belt history remains the critical document.
