Daimler Double Six Series III (1979–1992) Price Guide
-
typical price 17 October, 2026
The Daimler Double Six Series III, produced from 1979 to 1992, brought the V12 into the Pininfarina-styled body. The HE combustion chamber was introduced from 1981, reducing fuel consumption significantly and making the V12 more practical for regular use. The Series III Double Six is the most usable of the original XJ-based V12 Daimlers.
The Car
The HE (High Efficiency) modification from 1981 reduced V12 fuel consumption by around 20% through the May Fireball combustion chamber. This adaptation made the Double Six viable for buyers who wanted V12 refinement without entirely ruinous fuel bills. The Pininfarina body was, for many, the most handsome of the three XJ series. The Series III ran longer than either predecessor, allowing significant development of the V12’s reliability.
Buying
The HE specification from 1981 is the correct Double Six for regular use. Cooling system maintenance and regular servicing are the non-negotiable requirements. Daimler and Jaguar specialists will have the deepest knowledge of the V12’s requirements, you’ll benefit from utilising their experience. The Series III is the practical recommendation for anyone wanting a Double Six that can be used regularly.
