Citroen Xantia Price Guide
-
typical price 13 October, 2026
The Citroën Xantia was the replacement for the BX. It was a more refined family hatchback with Hydractive 2 suspension, a more conventional appearance, and the Activa system on top-spec cars that used active anti-roll technology to eliminate body lean in corners. The Activa is one of the most remarkable driving experiences available at any price in a 1990s family car.
The Car
The Xantia launched in 1993 with a range from 1.4 to 2.0-litre petrol and 1.9 TD diesel engines, all with Hydractive 2 suspension. The Xantia V6 used the PSA/Renault PRV engine at 167bhp. The Activa used active hydraulic anti-roll bars; hydraulic rams that opposed body roll, keeping the car flat regardless of cornering force. The Xantia Activa set a number of records for lateral acceleration in road car tests. The estate is particularly practical.
Buying
The Activa is the driver’s Xantia, the active anti-roll system is extraordinary when working correctly and expensive when it fails. The 2.0-litre diesel is the practical daily choice. Sphere condition matters as on all hydropneumatic Citroëns. The Citroën Car Club Xantia section has good technical resources.
