Citroen ID Price Guide

typical price 7 October, 2026
The Citroën ID was the simplified, more affordable companion to the DS. It used the same revolutionary hydropneumatic suspension and body but with a conventional cable-operated gearchange, manual steering, and simplified hydraulics. For buyers who wanted the DS’s ride quality and looks without the complexity of the fully powered DS, the ID offered a compelling compromise.
The Car
The ID19 launched in 1957 at approximately two-thirds of the DS’s price. The simplified hydraulics retained the self-levelling suspension but used a conventional steering column and clutch pedal. The same body as the DS with the same fibreglass roof and glass-fibre doors. The ID received the same engine updates as the DS through its production life. The ID estate (Break) and the Ambulance variant are the most practical body styles. From 1966 the ID received the DS’s semi-automatic gearbox as an option.
Buying
The ID offers the DS experience at lower cost; the ride quality is identical, the body is the same, and many mechanical components are shared. Hydraulic maintenance concerns are similar to the DS but somewhat less complex. The Citroën Car Club ID/DS section is the essential resource. The ID Break estate is particularly sought-after.
