The Citroën DS4 was the C4-based premium hatchback that joined the DS range in 2011. It was a raised, crossover-influenced hatchback with a lower roofline, sportier character, and the DS styling details that distinguished the sub-brand. Less successful than the DS3 but a more sophisticated driver’s car.
The Car
The DS4 used the C4 platform with 1.6 THP 155 and 200bhp petrol engines alongside 1.6 and 2.0 HDi diesels. The raised ride height and limited rear visibility attracted criticism; the 200bhp THP variant attracted genuine enthusiasm. The DS4 Crossback added further SUV influence. Production ended in 2015 when the DS brand transitioned to its own dedicated platform.
Buying
The 200bhp THP is the driver’s DS4 and is genuinely fast and characterful. Rear visibility requires adjustment. The 2.0 HDi 165 is the practical powertrain.
