Many enthusiasts consider the Citroën C6 as the last of the great Citroëns. A flagship executive saloon with full Hydractive 3+ suspension, a 3.0-litre V6 diesel, and a level of long-distance refinement that arguably no other car in the world could match, at any price. It was commercially unsuccessful, produced in small numbers from 2005 to 2012, and is now one of the most interesting and undervalued executive cars available.

The Car

The C6 used the same platform as the Peugeot 407 but with Hydractive 3+ suspension that read the road surface through sensors and adjusted damping in real-time. The 2.7 and 3.0 V6 HDi diesels were the recommended powertrains; refined, powerful, and economical. A narrow-angle V6 petrol was also available, although few were sold in the UK. In fact, only around 23,000 C6s were sold in the UK in total. This makes them rare enough that any example with service history could be worth preserving.

Buying

The 3.0 V6 HDi saloon is the outstanding specification. Hydractive sphere condition and actuator function are the priorities. Very low UK production numbers mean finding a good one requires patience. The Citroën C6 Owners Club is a fantastic resource where members can identify the specific failure patterns and their remedies.
