The Citroën C4 Cactus was the most distinctive mainstream Citroën since the CX. It was a small crossover with Airbump panels, minimal controls, and Advanced Comfort seats that generated enormous press attention and modest commercial success. In 2018 it was facelifted into a more conventional form; the original 2014 design is the one that still stands out.

The Car

The original C4 Cactus of 2014–2018 used 1.2 PureTech petrol and 1.6 BlueHDi diesel engines in a tall, light body with Airbump door panels, a minimal dashboard with a single large touchscreen, and the Advanced Comfort seats that would later migrate across the range. The 2018 facelift replaced the Airbumps with conventional body panels and a more traditional dashboard, losing much of the character in the process.

Buying

The original 2014–2018 Airbump Cactus is the car to seek; the facelift is a more ordinary car all-round. The 1.6 BlueHDi is the powertrain recommendation. PureTech petrol requires oil dilution monitoring. The pre-facelift Citroën Cactus is already showing signs of appreciating as a design landmark.
