The C2 was a three-door supermini coupé that replaced the Saxo in Citroën’s early-millenial range. It was smaller, lighter, and sharper-looking than the Saxo. The VTS and VTR variants offered genuine hot hatch performance at accessible prices.
The Car
The C2 launched in 2003 with 1.1 and 1.4-litre petrol engines plus a 1.4 HDi diesel. The VTR used the 110bhp 1.6-litre; the VTS used a 125bhp 1.6 16v. Both are entertaining to drive in a way that the C3 family car never attempted. The Stop & Start system on some variants was an early fuel-economy measure. Production ended in 2009 when the model was not replaced.
Buying
The VTS is the driver’s C2; compact, light, and properly set up for enthusiastic driving. The 1.6 HDi diesel is the economy choice. Rust in the lower body affects older examples.
