The Citroën C15 was the light van that succeeded the Acadiane and provided French artisans and small businesses with practical, economical commercial transport from 1984 to 2006. Based on the Visa platform with an extended van body, it used diesel and petrol engines and remained in production long after its commercial car siblings had been replaced.
The Car
The C15 used the Visa’s TU four-cylinder engine in 1,124cc petrol and 1,769cc diesel forms. The diesel C15D was the bestseller – unsurprisingly as it was extremely economical and virtually indestructible with correct maintenance. Load capacity was around 500kg. The C15 was in production for 22 years with minimal changes, a testament to how well the original design met its brief. It was the last French light van with rear-wheel drive.
Buying
The diesel C15 is a practical and affordable light commercial vehicle with a well-deserved reputation for durability. Rust in the lower body and floors is the primary concern. The TU diesel engine is inexpensive to maintain.
