The Citroën B14 of 1927–1930 refined the all-steel construction introduced with the B12 and was the last of the pre-traction avant Citroëns to use the traditional front-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout with a separate chassis. It was also notable as the first French car with safety glass windscreen as standard.

The Car

The B14 used a 1,539cc four-cylinder in an updated all-steel body with improved refinement and a wider range of body styles. André Citroën continued his practice of ambitious marketing when the B14 was used for the Croisière Noire trans-Africa expedition of 1924–1925, with half-track derivatives crossing from Algeria to Cape Town. The B14’s success consolidated Citroën’s position as France’s dominant manufacturer before the economic difficulties of the early 1930s forced Michelin to acquire the company in 1934.

Buying

B14 survivors are rare vintage cars requiring specialist attention. The Vintage Sports Car Club and French pre-war specialist restorers are the primary resources.
