Chevrolet Impala 3rd Gen (1961–1964) Price Guide
-
typical price 7 October, 2026
The 1961–1964 Chevrolet Impala adopted cleaner, more restrained styling after the excess of 1959–1960 and produced some of the most graceful full-sized American cars of the decade. The SS package arrived for 1961, the first time the Super Sport designation appeared on an Impala.
The Car
The 1961 body shed the bat-wings for cleaner surfacing with round taillights. The SS option for 1961 added floor shift, special instrumentation, and spinner wheel covers on any engine. For 1963 and 1964 the Z11 package (just 57 built in 1963) used the 427ci Mystery Motor V8 producing around 430bhp in a lightweight body built for drag racing. The SS 409 (from the famous song) used the W-series 409ci V8.
Buying
The Z11 is a serious racing-heritage collector’s car. The SS 409 is the accessible performance choice. Clean, rust-free survivors in convertible form are consistently strong investments.
