The fourth-generation Camaro of 1993 to 2002 represented the most technically accomplished F-body Camaro. We got the LT1 and LS1 V8 engines shared with the Corvette, the best chassis balance of any Camaro to that point, and the Z/28 and SS performance packages that restored the nameplate’s sporting credibility for the modern era.

The Car

The 1993 redesign brought the LT1 5.7-litre V8 in 275bhp form to the base Z/28, the same engine used in the C4 Corvette. The SS package arrived in 1996, raising the LT1 to 305bhp. The LS1 5.7-litre from 1998 raised output to 305bhp with improved efficiency. The 30th Anniversary Special Edition of 1997 and the 35th Anniversary of 2002 marked significant milestones. The convertible and T-top were both offered.

Buying

The LS1 SS is the performance pick; near-Corvette performance at significantly lower cost. The LT1 Z/28 is the affordable choice. LS1 engines are virtually indestructible with oil changes. The Chevrolet F-body community is comprehensive.
