The Chevrolet 3100 was the half-ton variant of the Advance Design truck series. This is the post-war pickup that is now among the most popular vehicles in the American classic truck hobby. The clean, rounded cab design, the Thriftmaster six-cylinder, and the straightforward engineering have made the 3100 a favourite for restoration and restomod projects worldwide.

The Car

Produced from 1947 to 1955 on the Advance Design platform, the 3100 used the 216ci and later 235ci Thriftmaster inline-six in a body styled by Franklin Quick Hershey. The 1954–1955 models received the more powerful 235ci engine and vacuum-assisted brakes. The Stepside cargo bed (with external rear fenders) is the classic look. The 1955 was the last Advance Design Chevrolet; the Task Force design replaced it for 1955 (actually launched April 1955).

Buying

The 1947–1953 trucks are the most sought-after for their styling. V8 swaps are universal in the hobby, so original six-cylinder trucks command premiums from purists. Frame and cab rust must be inspected carefully. The Advance Design Club is the primary resource.
