The Buick LeSabre was the entry point to the Buick range for most of its existence. Pitched as the most affordable full-sized Buick, which still meant more chrome, more comfort, and more displacement than almost any European car of the period. From 1960 to 1974 it was the volume Buick, selling in enormous numbers to buyers who wanted a full-sized American car with a touch more prestige than Chevrolet.
The Car
The LeSabre name ran from 1959 all the way to 2005 as a full-sized saloon and coupe, with our dataset here covering 1960–1974; the peak era of the full-sized LeSabre. These cars used Buick’s own V8 engines on the B-body platform shared with Oldsmobile and Pontiac. The 1960–1964 models carry the full-finned styling of the era; post-1965 cars adopted the cleaner, more restrained look that GM transitioned to across its range.
Buying
The LeSabre is the most affordable entry into full-sized Buick ownership. 1960–1964 cars carry the most visual drama. The convertible is the most desirable body style in any year. Buick V8 engines from this era are well-supported by the American car specialist community.
