BMW Z4 Generation / Variant Price Guides

The BMW Z4 replaced the Z3 in 2002 and has been through three very different generations. From Chris Bangle’s dramatic flame-surfaced E85 through the E89’s retractable hardtop to the current G29 developed in collaboration with Toyota. Three generations have maintained the Z4’s position as BMW’s primary roadster, each time making a slightly different statement about what a two-seat sports car should be.

The Range

The E85/E86 ran from 2002 to 2008 with a soft-top roadster and coupe. The E89 from 2009 to 2016 introduced the retractable hardtop. The G29 from 2019 is the Toyota Supra sibling, built in Graz by Magna Steyr. The Z4M covered the E85/E86 performance variants.

Buying

The E85 is the classic roadster; the E89 the most practical; the G29 the most technically accomplished. The manual gearbox is always preferred by drivers.
