The F25 X3, produced from 2010 to 2017, was a significant improvement over the E83. Reviews praised it for being softer-riding, better-equipped, and with a more refined interior that addressed their criticisms of the original. It established the X3 as the benchmark in its class rather than merely a credible entry.

The Car

The F25 used N20 four-cylinders in the 20i and 28i, plus N55 straight-six in the 35i producing 306bhp. N57 straight-six diesels covered 20d, 25d, and 30d. The 28i and 35i are the petrol picks; the 20d and 30d the diesel workhorses. A 2014 LCI facelift updated styling and introduced the revised B47/B58 engine family.

Buying

The 30d is the outstanding specification; three-litre diesel straight-six with genuine refinement and economy. The 35i N55 is the petrol performance choice. N20 timing chain concerns apply to the four-cylinder variants. The BMW F25 X3 has depreciated to very accessible prices and represents strong used value.
