BMW M6 E24 (1983–1989) Price Guide
-
typical price 7 October, 2026
The E24 M6, produced from 1983 to 1989, brought the S38 straight-six from the M5 E28 into the 6 Series coupe body. Thus creating a grand tourer that combined the M5’s performance with the E24’s elegance. It was hand-built at BMW Motorsport’s Preussenstrasse facility alongside the M5.
The Car
The S38B35 produced 286bhp at 6,500rpm with individual throttle bodies and dry-sump lubrication. A five-speed Getrag close-ratio manual was standard. The M635CSi badging was used in European markets; the M6 designation for North America. Around 5,855 were built across all markets. The body was visually distinguished from the standard 635CSi by subtle modifications including a front spoiler and wider rear arches.
Buying
The M6/M635CSi is an appreciating classic; rarer than the E28 M5 and with the additional appeal of the E24 coupe body. The S38 requires the same attentive maintenance as in the M5. Rust in the same areas as all E24s applies.
The BMW M6 E24 has been rising in value for a decade, it is unlikely to reverse this trend any time soon.
