BMW M2 Generation / Variant Price Guides
The BMW M2 is the purist’s M car. It’s the one that prioritises driving reward over outright performance, rear-wheel drive with a manual gearbox option, and a compact footprint that makes it manageable on the road as well as devastating on a track. Two generations have refined the formula, each time resisting the temptation to make it heavier and more complex in the pursuit of meaningless Top-Trumps numbers.
The Range
The F87 M2 ran from 2016 to 2021, using the S55 engine from the M3/M4 (in tuned form in the Competition). The G87 launched in 2023 with the S58 engine from the current M3/M4. Both generations offer a manual gearbox option, increasingly rare among performance cars and a deliberate decision to preserve the M2’s analogue character.
Buying
The manual gearbox is the specification that defines the M2’s character. Both generations are outstanding. The F87 Competition is the accessible modern classic; the G87 is the current car with the more powerful S58.
