i5 (2023–)

The BMW i5 is the fully electric 5 Series. It was launched alongside the combustion G60 5 Series in 2023 and shared its platform, interior, and dimensions. The i5 M60 xDrive with 601bhp is the most powerful 5 Series ever produced.

The Car

The i5 uses a 84kWh battery in the sDrive40 single-motor rear-wheel drive at 340bhp and the xDrive40 all-wheel drive at 396bhp, with the M60 twin-motor at 601bhp. WLTP range runs from around 270 miles for the M60 to 380 miles for the sDrive40. The 205kW maximum DC charging rate adds 100km in around 10 minutes on compatible chargers. Available as saloon and Touring estate.

Buying

The i5 Touring is a compelling proposition; electric estate practicality in a genuinely premium package. The M60 is the performance flagship. The BMW i5 is current production with strong residuals. Battery health has been exemplary on early examples.
