BMW 8 Series Generation / Variant Price Guides

The BMW 8 Series name has appeared in two distinct eras. The E31 of 1990 to 1999 was a technological tour de force that arrived at the wrong price and at the wrong time. It was too expensive, too complex, and soon overtaken by the cars it competed against. The G15 that returned in 2018 brought the name back with a clearer market position and a more compelling engine range.

The Two Eras

The E31 of 1989 to 1999 used V8 and V12 engines in a low, wide coupe body by Klaus Kapitza that remains one of BMW’s most dramatic designs. The G15 from 2018 returned with a twin-turbo V8 and an M8 variant that took the car to supercar-adjacent performance levels.

Buying

The E31 is the classic collector’s coupe. The G15 is the modern grand tourer. The M8 represents the 8 Series at its most extreme in both generations.
