The G70 7 Series, launched in 2022, is the most technically ambitious 7 Series yet. It is the first to offer a fully electric variant (the i7), a plug-in hybrid, mild-hybrid petrol, and a 729bhp M Performance hybrid powertrain (the M760e) in a single generation. It is also the most controversial-looking in years.

The Car

The G70 uses B58 straight-six with 48V mild-hybrid in the 740i, N63 twin-turbo V8 in the 750e xDrive plug-in hybrid, and the M760e using a straight-six hybrid system producing 571bhp in standard form and 729bhp with boost. The theatre screen in the rear headlining is either the future of luxury or an extravagance, depending on how often rear passengers watch films. The i7 fully electric variant is covered under the electric models.

Buying

Current production. The M760e is the performance flagship. The 740i is the balanced daily choice. The BMW G70 is too new for reliability data but the B58 and N63 engines are well-proven.
