The Bentley Mark V was intended to succeed the 4 1/4 Litre as the latest Derby Bentley, but the outbreak of war in 1939 curtailed production after just a handful had been completed. It is one of the rarest Bentleys of any era.
The Car
The Mark V featured independent front suspension, a first for Bentley, and a new chassis designed for improved handling. The engine was an evolution of the 4¼ Litre’s six-cylinder. Around 11 Mark V chassis were completed before war halted production. Some were bodied before the war; others received coachwork after 1945. The Mark V’s engineering innovations fed directly into the post-war Mark VI that would become Bentley’s most successful model to date.
