The Bentley Continental of 1984 to 2002 refers to the handbuilt coupes and convertibles produced by Mulliner Park Ward that occupied the top of the Bentley range before the arrival of the Volkswagen-era cars. These are among the last truly bespoke Bentleys and each one was hand-finished over months at the Crewe coachbuilding facility.

The Cars

The Continental name covered the two-door coupé versions of the T Series and later Mulsanne/Turbo R platform cars. The Continental Turbo R of the late 1980s combined the turbocharged V8 with a four-seat coupé body. The Azure convertible ran alongside as the open-top partner. Each car was built essentially by hand at a rate of only a few per week. Around 400 Continental coupes and convertibles were built across this era.

Buying

These are collector’s cars with prices reflecting their rarity and handbuilt nature. The Turbo R specification is the performance choice. Bentley heritage records are essential for authentication. The Continental R of 1991 is often considered the finest of this era.
