The Arnage 6¾ V8 (the Red Label and its successors) is the real Arnage: the car with Bentley’s own twin-turbo 6,750cc V8, which arrived in 1999 as soon as the BMW supply agreement ended and continued until the Arnage’s discontinuation in 2009.
The Car
The Red Label used the revised 6,750cc V8 with twin turbochargers producing 400bhp, rising to 450bhp in the Arnage RL long-wheelbase and 500bhp in the Arnage T performance variant. The Arnage T with its 500bhp, 1,000Nm torque figure, and lowered sports suspension was briefly the fastest full-size luxury saloon in the world. Various special editions including the Diamond Series and final 50 cars marked the end of Arnage production in 2009.
What Goes Wrong
The 6¾-litre twin-turbo runs hot and demands strict oil change intervals as neglected turbos are eye-wateringly expensive to replace. Coolant pipe condition is a priority on any high-mileage Arnage. The hydraulic system for the self-levelling suspension requires periodic fluid and component checks. The gearbox fluid needs regular changes that are frequently overlooked. Interior wear on heavily used cars can be expensive to address as Bentley hide and veneer require specialist restoration.
Buying
The Arnage T is the enthusiast’s choice; 500bhp in a two-tonne saloon, yet capable of extraordinary refinement. Lower-mileage Red Label saloons offer accessible big Bentley ownership. Service history from a Bentley specialist is the most important single factor in valuation.
