The Austin 10 was one of the most popular British cars of the 1930s and 1940s. It was a modest, reliable family saloon that bridged the gap between the tiny 7 and the larger Austins. Over 290,000 were built across several body styles.

The Range

Produced from 1932 to 1947 across several series, the Austin 10 used a 1,125cc side-valve four-cylinder engine. Body styles included four-door saloons, tourers, and commercial variants. The 10 was a step up from the Seven in every respect: more power, more space, better refinement, and a more substantial feel. The pre-war cars are the most characterful; the post-war examples are essentially warmed-over pre-war designs that continued while Austin developed its modern replacements.

Buying

The Austin 10 is a practical and affordable pre-war classic. The engine is simple and robust. The pre-war Austin club network provides excellent parts and knowledge support. Rust and timber-frame deterioration are the primary concerns. The 10 offers a significant step up in comfort and performance over the Seven for buyers who find the smallest Austin too cramped.
