The 8S TT, produced from 2014 to 2023, was the most driver-focused TT ever made. Benefiting from the Golf R’s MQB platform, Audi’s virtual cockpit moving the instruments into the driver’s eyeline, and the most powerful RS variant the model has ever carried.
The Car
The 8S used the 2.0 TFSI in 230bhp Quattro form as the core car, with the TTS at 310bhp and the TT RS at 400bhp. The virtual cockpit (instruments displayed on a 12.3-inch screen behind the steering wheel) was introduced on the 8S TT before spreading across Audi’s range. The TT RS in Performance guise offered 420bhp. The TT RS Roadster combined open-air motoring with the five-cylinder sound at its most visceral.
Buying
The TT RS 8S is one of the finest driver’s cars at its price point; 0–62mph in 3.7 seconds, the glorious five-cylinder soundtrack, and a chassis balance that rewards commitment. Check the RS-specific coilover suspension for wear. The Audi virtual cockpit is excellent in operation but check for software faults on early cars. This generation was discontinued in 2023 without a direct replacement.
