The 8J TT, produced from 2006 to 2014, addressed the original’s handling limitations while keeping the visual drama. The new car was longer, wider, and lower, with a more sophisticated suspension setup that finally gave the TT handling credentials to match its looks.
The Car
The 8J used 2.0 TFSI in 200bhp form and the 3.2 V6 initially, before the TTS (272bhp, Quattro) and TT RS (340bhp, five-cylinder turbo, Quattro) joined the range. The TT RS’s 2.5-litre five-cylinder turbo is a landmark engine. Its combination of sound and performance made the 8J RS the definitive sports car of the generation. The magnetic ride adaptive suspension on the TT RS is remarkable.
Buying
The TT RS is the one to pursue if budget allows. The 2.0 TFSI 200bhp is the everyday sensible choice. DSG fluid changes are essential maintenance. The Audi five-cylinder RS engine requires regular oil changes with the correct specification; it is high-strung and demands attention.
