The FY SQ5, launched in 2017, moved from supercharged to turbocharged V6 and gained the MLB Evo platform’s improved dynamics. It was lighter, more responsive, and ultimately more capable than the 8R despite the switch from supercharger to twin-turbo.
The Car
The EA839 3.0 TFSI twin-turbo produced 354bhp and 500Nm in the FY SQ5. Eight-speed torque converter automatic and quattro with sport differential. 0–62mph in 4.8 seconds. A 48V mild-hybrid system was added from 2020. The FY interior quality is notably better than the 8R; the MLB Evo platform brings the Q5 to a comparable standard to the A4 and A5.
Buying
The FY SQ5 with the 48V mild-hybrid (from 2020) is the most developed specification. Strong residuals relative to the standard Q5. The Audi 3.0 TFSI is well-proven across the Porsche-shared applications. Recommended as one of the better used performance SUV propositions in its class.
