Audi Q5 Generation / Variant Price Guides
The Audi Q5 is Audi’s mid-sized SUV and one of the most consistently successful cars in the range. A well-judged package that balances space, refinement, technology, and driving dynamics in a way that its competitors have struggled to match consistently. The BMW X3 is sharper to drive; the Mercedes GLC is more glamorous; the Q5 is typically the best all-rounder.
The Range
Three generations from 8R to the current GU cover 2008 to the present. The 8R established the template; the FY moved to the MLB Evo platform with a substantial quality improvement; the GU continues the FY’s development. The SQ5 performance variant has been available throughout. All generations use quattro all-wheel drive as standard across most of the engine range.
Buying
The FY is the sweet spot for most used buyers; better build quality than the 8R with enough depreciation to be accessible. The 3.0 TDI 286bhp is the outstanding engine in both generations. Avoid early 8R cars if a spotless interior is important as the materials improved significantly mid-cycle.
