The DB3 was Aston Martin’s purpose-built sports racing car, designed to take on Jaguar, Ferrari, and Mercedes-Benz on the world’s circuits. It evolved into the DB3S and then the DBR1 that would win Le Mans in 1959.
The Car
Produced from 1951 to 1953, the DB3 used a 2.6-litre twin-cam six in a tubular chassis. Ten were built. The improved DB3S that followed (1953-1956) was lighter, more powerful, and significantly more successful in competition, with 31 built. These are works racing cars and among the most valuable Aston Martins in existence. Stirling Moss, Peter Collins, and Roy Salvadori all raced DB3S cars in international events.
